Where the Sunrise Waited - The Echo That Shouldn’t Exist - Part 10

The forest did not feel the same anymore.

It looked the same.
The same trees.
The same narrow trail.
The same filtered sunlight falling through the leaves.

But something had shifted.

Silently.

Deeply.

Kabir walked unusually quietly for almost a full minute.

Then—

“I don’t like this,” he whispered. “When I’m quiet, it means something is seriously wrong.”

Dev replied immediately,
“Yes. Nature is healing.”

Riya laughed softly.

Even in the tension, that didn’t change.

But Raghav didn’t smile this time.

He continued walking ahead, his pace steady… but his eyes more alert than before.

Aarav followed him.

Silent.

Focused.

Meera walked behind them.

Her steps slower now.

Not because she was tired.

Because something was… off.

Then it happened.

A faint sound.

Like a whisper.

Not clear.

Not loud.

Just… there.

Meera stopped.

“Did you hear that?” she asked quietly.

Everyone paused.

Kabir looked around dramatically.

“If this is where the forest starts talking, I resign from this trip.”

Dev shook his head.

“It’s probably the wind.”

Riya added,

“Or your imagination finally becoming useful.”

But Meera didn’t move.

She listened again.

There it was.

Faint.

Almost like… water.

But they had already left the waterfall behind.

Raghav slowly turned.

His expression serious again.

“Keep walking,” he said firmly.

Kabir raised his hand slightly.

“Sir… respectfully… this feels like the exact moment in movies where people should not keep walking.”

Dev nodded.

“For once, he’s right.”

Raghav didn’t argue.

But his tone lowered.

“Just stay together.”

That was enough to make even Kabir listen.

They continued walking.

Closer.

Tighter.

No one drifting away now.

And then—

Aarav stopped.

Suddenly.

Everyone nearly bumped into him.

“What happened?” Dev asked.

Aarav didn’t answer.

He was staring ahead.

At the trail.

Or rather—

At something on the trail.

A small rock.

Nothing unusual.

Except—

It had the same symbol carved into it.

Clear.

Fresh.

Not faded like before.

Kabir blinked.

“Nope,” he said instantly. “Nope, nope, nope. We did not sign up for part two of the symbol.”

Riya stepped closer.

“This wasn’t here before… right?”

Dev shook his head.

“No. It wasn’t.”

Meera felt it again.

That strange pull.

Stronger now.

Like the place was… reacting.

Aarav slowly stepped forward.

Carefully.

His eyes fixed on the symbol.

His hand moved toward his bag again.

But before he could take anything out—

Raghav’s voice cut through sharply.

“Don’t.”

Aarav stopped.

Looked at him.

Raghav walked closer.

His gaze moved from the rock…

To Aarav.

Then to Meera.

Something unspoken passed through his eyes.

Something heavy.

Kabir whispered to Riya,

“I officially regret touching that first one.”

Riya nodded slowly.

“Same.”

Dev added,

“This is why instructions exist.”

Kabir sighed.

“Too late for life lessons now.”

A sudden breeze passed again.

Stronger this time.

Leaves rustled loudly.

And then—

That sound came again.

The same one Meera heard before.

But now…

Everyone heard it.

A faint echo.

Like water flowing.

But impossible.

They were far from the waterfall.

Kabir froze.

“Okay… I take it back. The forest is definitely talking.”

Dev didn’t joke this time.

Riya looked around.

“This doesn’t make sense.”

Meera’s heartbeat quickened slightly.

Not fear.

Recognition.

And that scared her more.

Aarav finally opened his bag.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He took out the folded notebook page.

This time…

He didn’t hide it.

He opened it.

Everyone looked.

On the page—

The same symbol.

Drawn clearly.

And below it—

More lines.

Handwritten.

Partially visible.

Kabir leaned forward.

“Bro… since when are you carrying spoilers?”

Aarav didn’t respond.

Meera stepped closer.

Not too close.

Just enough to see.

Her eyes moved across the page.

And then stopped.

On one line.

A line she hadn’t seen before.

“The path repeats until it is understood.”

Silence.

Even Kabir didn’t speak immediately.

Which was rare.

Very rare.

Dev finally said,

“…what does that even mean?”

Raghav answered.

Quietly.

Almost like he had been waiting for this moment.

“It means,” he said,
“you don’t leave this place… the same way you entered.”

Kabir blinked slowly.

“…sir, I would like a refund.”

Riya whispered,

“We are definitely not normal tourists anymore.”

Dev nodded.

“We never were.”

The wind settled.

The forest grew still again.

Too still.

As if it was waiting.

Watching.

And somewhere deep inside—

Something had begun.
