Where the Sunrise Waited - The Secret Plan - Part 5

 The Secret Plan

The hill town slowly began to quiet down as afternoon sunlight softened the busy streets.

Tourists wandered through the small market.
Children chased each other near the town square.
The mountains around the town looked peaceful again, as if nothing mysterious had ever existed there.

But inside a small souvenir shop, two people were whispering like conspirators.

Kabir and Riya.

Dev stood a few feet away pretending not to be involved.

“This is a bad idea,” he said without looking at them.

Kabir waved his hand dismissively.

“Relax. It’s just harmless fun.”

Riya nodded enthusiastically.

“Exactly. Just a tiny experiment.”

Dev sighed.

“I already regret being here.”

Kabir leaned closer to Riya and lowered his voice.

“Step one,” he whispered, “we make them accidentally walk together tomorrow.”

Riya grinned.

“That’s easy.”

“Step two,” Kabir continued, “we disappear for a while.”

Dev stared at them.

“You two are insane.”

Across the market street, Aarav stood near a wooden bench studying a map of the mountain trails.

The folded notebook page was now tucked carefully inside his bag.

But he kept touching the bag occasionally, as if making sure it was still there.

A few meters away, Meera was standing near a handicraft stall looking at handmade bracelets.

She seemed calm.

But every once in a while her eyes moved toward the same direction.

Toward the bench where Aarav stood.

Not staring.

Just noticing.

Meanwhile Kabir and Riya were watching both of them like detectives.

Kabir whispered dramatically,
“Observe the subjects.”

Riya nearly laughed.

Dev facepalmed.

Kabir continued narrating like a wildlife documentary.

“Male subject appears unaware. Female subject pretending to browse bracelets.”

Riya added,
“Both clearly noticing each other but acting normal.”

Dev muttered,
“You two need help.”

Kabir suddenly had another idea.

“Wait,” he said. “New plan.”

He grabbed a small colorful keychain from the shop counter and walked out casually.

Without warning, he “accidentally” bumped into Aarav.

The keychain dropped on the ground and rolled toward Meera’s direction.

Kabir gasped dramatically.

“Oh no! My expensive keychain!”

Aarav looked confused.

“You bought that five seconds ago.”

Kabir ignored him.

The keychain rolled across the street and stopped near Meera’s foot.

She looked down at it.

Picked it up.

For a brief moment she looked toward Kabir.

Kabir was waving exaggeratedly.

“Mine!”

Meera walked over and handed it to him quietly.

“Thank you,” Kabir said with a grin.

She nodded and turned away.

Still no conversation with Aarav.

But for a moment the two stood barely a step apart again.

Just long enough to notice something small.

A thin line of ink visible from the folded notebook page inside Aarav’s bag.

Meera didn’t read it fully.

But one sentence caught her eye.

“Some journeys are meant to bring strangers together.”

Before she could think about it longer, Kabir clapped his hands loudly.

“Alright everyone!” he announced.
“Tomorrow morning — adventure time!”

Dev groaned again.

Riya was trying not to laugh.

Aarav simply adjusted his bag.

Meera returned to her friends.

The market street slowly filled with evening light.

The sun began sinking behind the mountains.

And tomorrow’s sunrise…

Would take all of them somewhere none of them had expected.

Including Kabir and Riya — whose little mischief might soon become something much bigger than they planned.
