Where the Sunrise Waited - The Path That Comes Back - Part 11
The Path That Comes Back
No one spoke for a while after reading the line.
“The path repeats until it is understood.”
The words didn’t feel like a warning.
They felt like a rule.
Kabir was the first to break the silence.
“I’m just saying,” he began slowly, “if the path repeats, can we at least repeat breakfast also?”
Dev stared at him.
“In this situation… that’s your concern?”
Kabir shrugged.
“Survival needs energy.”
Riya let out a small laugh, but it faded quickly.
Because something felt… wrong.
Raghav folded the page back carefully and handed it to Aarav.
“We keep moving,” he said.
No one argued.
They started walking again.
Same direction.
Same trail.
Same group.
But now—
Every step felt watched.
Measured.
Counted.
Kabir began counting loudly.
“One… two… three… four…”
Dev frowned.
“What are you doing?”
Kabir replied,
“If the path repeats, I want proof. Science.”
Riya added,
“This is the most useless scientific method I’ve ever seen.”
Kabir ignored her.
“…twenty-seven… twenty-eight…”
The trail curved slightly to the right.
Just like before.
“…forty-nine… fifty…”
A small broken branch lay across the path.
Kabir stepped over it.
“…seventy…”
A rock with a scratch mark.
“…eighty-one…”
Kabir suddenly stopped.
“…eighty-two.”
Everyone behind him stopped too.
“What happened?” Aarav asked.
Kabir slowly turned around.
His face had lost its usual humor.
“That branch,” he said quietly.
Dev looked confused.
“What about it?”
Kabir pointed.
“We already crossed it.”
Riya shook her head.
“No… we just came this way.”
Kabir didn’t move.
“That’s what I thought too.”
A slow silence spread through the group.
Meera looked ahead.
Then back.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
The trees…
The angle of light…
Even the shape of the stones…
They looked the same.
Too same.
Dev walked forward quickly.
“No. This is coincidence.”
He stepped ahead—
Then stopped.
Right in front of him…
The same rock.
With the same scratch mark.
Exactly the same.
Kabir whispered,
“…eighty-one.”
No one laughed.
This time, even Kabir didn’t.
Riya’s voice lowered,
“This… is not normal.”
Dev turned around slowly.
“Okay,” he said, “now I’m concerned.”
Kabir raised his hand slightly.
“I would like to officially panic now.”
Raghav remained still.
Watching.
Thinking.
Then he said,
“We’re not lost.”
Kabir blinked.
“That’s your conclusion??”
Raghav continued calmly,
“The path is not changing.”
Dev frowned.
“Then what is?”
Raghav looked around the forest.
“Us.”
Kabir stared at him.
“…sir, that answer made things worse.”
Riya nodded.
“Much worse.”
Meera hadn’t spoken yet.
But now she stepped forward slowly.
Her eyes scanning the surroundings carefully.
Not with fear.
With focus.
She closed her eyes for a brief second.
And listened.
The faint sound again.
Water.
But not ahead.
Not behind.
Somewhere… else.
She turned slightly.
Toward a direction that wasn’t the trail.
A small, barely visible path between the trees.
Almost hidden.
Almost forgotten.
Her eyes stayed there.
Something about it felt… right.
Aarav noticed.
He followed her gaze.
Not questioning.
Just observing.
Kabir saw both of them looking in the same direction.
“Okay,” he said, “if both silent people agree on something, it’s either very smart or very dangerous.”
Dev added,
“Mostly dangerous.”
Riya whispered,
“What do you see?”
Meera spoke softly.
“For the first time… this doesn’t feel like the wrong direction.”
Kabir blinked.
“That is not comforting.”
Raghav stepped closer.
His eyes moved to the hidden path.
And for the first time—
Something like recognition appeared again.
“You feel it too?” he asked quietly.
Meera didn’t answer directly.
But she didn’t look away either.
Kabir whispered to Dev,
“Why do I feel like we just unlocked a new level?”
Dev replied,
“Because we did.”
Aarav adjusted his bag.
His grip tightened slightly.
But he didn’t stop Meera.
Didn’t question.
Didn’t lead.
Just watched.
Riya took a small step forward.
“So… we’re going there?”
Kabir sighed dramatically.
“Of course we are. Bad decisions are now part of the itinerary.”
Dev looked at him.
“You were the one who started this.”
Kabir nodded proudly.
“And I regret nothing. Except everything.”
A faint breeze passed again.
The hidden path seemed to open slightly…
As if it was waiting.
Meera took the first step.
Not fast.
Not hesitant.
Just certain.
Aarav followed.
Then Raghav.
Riya and Dev exchanged a look.
And stepped in too.
Kabir stayed behind for one second.
Looked at the main trail.
Then at the hidden path.
“…I miss my normal life,” he whispered.
And ran after them.
The moment all of them stepped into the new path—
The forest behind them went silent.
Completely.
As if the original trail had never existed
