Where the Sunrise Waited - Where Water Remembers - Part7
The faint sound of flowing water slowly grew louder as they walked deeper into the forest.
It wasn’t just a sound anymore.
It was a pull.
Like something ahead was calling them.
Kabir stopped mid-step and raised his hand dramatically.
“I hear it,” he whispered. “Either it’s a waterfall… or my stomach asking for breakfast again.”
Dev didn’t even turn.
“If your stomach had this much energy, you would’ve reached the top twice.”
Riya laughed, trying not to lose her balance on the narrow path.
The group continued forward.
The trees began to thin.
The sunlight grew brighter.
And then…
They saw it.
A hidden waterfall, cascading down a rocky cliff, glowing under golden sunlight.
Mist rose from the base like soft clouds, and tiny droplets sparkled in the air.
For a moment…
No one spoke.
Even Kabir.
“Okay…” he finally said softly, “I take back everything. This was worth waking up early.”
Dev nodded.
“Finally. A sensible sentence.”
Riya stepped closer, eyes wide.
“This doesn’t even feel real.”
Meera stood still.
Something about this place felt… different.
Familiar.
Her eyes slowly moved across the rocks, the flowing water… and then stopped.
There was something carved near the base of the waterfall.
Faint.
Almost hidden by moss.
A symbol.
Before she could step closer, Kabir clapped loudly.
“Group photo time!”
Dev groaned.
“Of course.”
Kabir quickly started positioning everyone.
“You stand there… no, not like that, you look like a disappointed teacher. Smile.”
Dev stared at him.
“I am a disappointed human.”
Riya laughed.
Meanwhile, in all the movement…
Kabir “accidentally” pulled Aarav a little to one side.
Riya did the same with Meera.
And just like that…
Without making it obvious…
They ended up standing closer than before.
Not touching.
But close enough to notice.
Kabir whispered under his breath,
“Mission successful.”
Riya nodded proudly.
But just as Kabir was about to take the photo…
Something unexpected happened.
The ground near the edge was damp.
Slippery.
Meera took a small step forward to adjust her position—
Her foot slipped.
It happened fast.
A slight loss of balance.
A sharp intake of breath—
Before she could fall—
Aarav caught her hand.
Everything paused.
For a moment, the sound of the waterfall faded into the background.
Her hand in his.
Steady.
Firm.
Safe.
Kabir froze mid-photo.
“OH—” he whispered loudly, “this is better than the picture.”
Dev covered his face.
“I cannot believe this is my life.”
Riya was trying not to scream.
Meera slowly regained her balance.
But neither of them let go immediately.
For a second…
They just looked at each other.
Closer than ever before.
Not strangers anymore.
But not something else either.
Something in between.
Something unspoken.
Kabir finally broke the silence.
“Ahem. Should I take the picture or frame this moment forever in my memory?”
Aarav quickly let go.
Meera stepped back.
Both slightly embarrassed.
Both slightly aware.
Riya whispered,
“Progress level: dangerous.”
Dev added,
“At this rate, we will never go back home.”
Kabir clicked the picture anyway.
“Perfect,” he said. “Accidental romance captured live.”
Meera turned away, trying to hide a small smile.
Aarav looked toward the waterfall again.
But his focus wasn’t on the water anymore.
Meanwhile, unnoticed by everyone else…
Raghav stood near the carved rock.
His fingers lightly traced the symbol.
His expression serious now.
No smile.
No humor.
Just quiet recognition.
He looked toward Aarav.
Then toward the notebook bag.
And whispered softly to himself—
“So it begins…”
Behind them, the waterfall continued to flow endlessly.
As if it had seen stories like this before.
As if it remembered
