Where the Sunrise Waited - The Choice That Divides - Part 14

The forest felt like it was holding its breath.

No wind.

No sound.

Just five people… standing at the edge of something they didn’t fully understand.

And for the first time—

No one knew what to do next.

Kabir looked from one face to another.

“This is it, right?” he said slowly.
“This is the moment where the group splits and everything goes wrong.”

Dev didn’t deny it.

“Feels like it.”

Riya crossed her arms, her voice quieter now.

“We shouldn’t split.”

It wasn’t fear.

It was instinct.

Raghav looked at her.

“Sometimes staying together…” he said,
“…means no one moves forward.”

Kabir blinked.

“…sir, I preferred your earlier mysterious answers. This one is stressful.”

No one laughed.

Because deep down—

They understood.

This place wasn’t asking them to walk.

It was asking them to choose.

Meera took a small step forward.

Toward that unseen direction again.

The one only she seemed to feel.

Riya noticed immediately.

“Meera.”

Just her name.

But it held a question.

A hesitation.

A warning.

Meera turned slightly.

Not fully.

“I don’t think we’re meant to go the same way,” she said softly.

Kabir raised both hands.

“No. No. Absolutely not. We just became a group. We haven’t even had proper lunch together.”

Dev added dryly,

“That’s your concern?”

Kabir nodded.

“Priorities.”

Raghav stepped forward slowly.

“This place reacts to what each of you carry,” he said.

Dev frowned.

“Meaning?”

Raghav looked at him directly.

“Your thoughts. Your past. Your questions.”

Kabir pointed at himself.

“I carry snacks. Does that count?”

Riya sighed.

“You finished them.”

Kabir looked betrayed.

“I trusted you.”

Meera didn’t react.

Her focus remained ahead.

Something was calling her.

Not loudly.

But clearly.

Aarav noticed it.

Not the call.

But the certainty.

He had seen it before.

Not here.

But in moments where someone had already decided… even before speaking.

Kabir suddenly stepped in front of Meera.

“No,” he said.
“Okay, listen. We explore together. We get confused together. We panic together.”

Dev nodded slightly.

“For once… I agree with him.”

Riya looked at Meera again.

Her voice softer.

“We don’t know what’s there.”

Meera finally turned fully this time.

Looked at all of them.

One by one.

“I don’t think knowing helps here,” she said quietly.

Silence.

Because that felt true.

And uncomfortable.

Kabir shook his head.

“No. I reject deep thoughts. We need a normal solution.”

Dev replied,

“There isn’t one.”

Raghav spoke again.

“Only one of you needs to go there.”

Everyone froze.

Kabir pointed at himself immediately.

“Not me.”

Riya said,

“Obviously not you.”

Dev added,

“Please not him.”

Kabir looked offended.

“Wow. Support system.”

Raghav continued,

“The rest… can wait.”

Kabir’s eyes widened.

“Wait?? Here?? In this haunted geometry place??”

Dev said calmly,

“It’s not haunted.”

Kabir stared at him.

“The ground glowed.”

Dev paused.

“…fair point.”

Aarav finally spoke.

“I’ll go.”

Everyone looked at him.

Even Meera.

Kabir blinked.

“Bro suddenly became the main character.”

Dev narrowed his eyes.

“Why you?”

Aarav didn’t explain.

He just looked toward the same direction Meera had been looking.

But his expression was different.

Not drawn.

Not pulled.

Just… ready.

Meera studied him for a moment.

Then shook her head slightly.

“No.”

A simple word.

But firm.

Kabir whispered,

“Okay now it’s getting interesting.”

Dev ignored him.

“Then who?”

Silence.

Riya looked between them.

Then at Raghav.

“You said only one person should go.”

Raghav nodded.

Kabir slowly stepped back.

“Again, removing myself from the candidate list.”

Dev said,

“No one asked you.”

Kabir whispered,

“Still clarifying.”

Meera took another step forward.

“I’ll go.”

Riya immediately held her arm again.

“No.”

This time—

Stronger.

Meera looked at her.

There was no fear in her expression.

Just certainty.

“It’s already chosen,” she said softly.

Kabir groaned.

“I hate when people say things like that.”

Dev asked quietly,

“What if you don’t come back?”

Meera didn’t answer immediately.

And that silence…

Was the answer.

Riya’s grip tightened.

“You’re not going alone.”

Raghav spoke calmly,

“If more than one goes… the path changes again.”

Kabir raised his hand.

“I vote we cancel the path.”

No response.

Of course.

Aarav looked at Meera.

For a moment—

It felt like he might argue.

But he didn’t.

Instead, he said quietly,

“Then don’t take long.”

Meera looked at him.

Not surprised.

Not emotional.

Just understanding.

A silent agreement.

Not connection.

Not attachment.

Just… acknowledgment.

Kabir whispered dramatically,

“This is too calm. Something is definitely wrong.”

Dev nodded.

“For once… you’re right.”

Riya slowly let go of Meera’s hand.

Reluctantly.

“Just come back,” she said.

Meera gave a small nod.

Then—

Without another word—

She turned.

And stepped into the unseen path.

The moment she did—

The air shifted.

Soft.

Sudden.

And then—

She was gone.

Not vanished.

Just…

Not visible anymore.

Like the forest had closed behind her.

Kabir froze.

“…she just disappeared.”

Dev whispered,

“No.”

“…we just can’t see her.”

Riya stood still.

Eyes fixed on the empty space.

Raghav didn’t move.

Aarav didn’t move.

No one moved.

Because now—

They understood.

This wasn’t just a journey.

This was something else.

Something that separated.

Something that revealed.

And somewhere ahead—

Meera was now walking alone.
