Where the Sunrise Waited - The First Light - Part 1
The First Light
The mountains were still half asleep.
A thin mist floated over the narrow trekking path, wrapping the tall pine trees like a soft blanket. The air was cold enough to make every breath visible.
It was still dark, but the eastern sky had begun to glow faintly.
People slowly climbed the trail toward the famous Sunrise Point — a rocky edge overlooking endless valleys.
Some were tourists.
Some were photographers.
Some were simply dreamers who believed that watching a sunrise from the mountains could somehow change their life.
Among them walked Aarav Mehta.
Twenty-eight years old, quiet by nature, and carrying a backpack that looked heavier than it should be. He had arrived in the small hill town just the previous night from Delhi, escaping a life that had recently become too loud.
His friend Kabir, who walked beside him, was the complete opposite.
“Bro, if the sunrise is not good today, I swear I am going back and sleeping till evening,” Kabir complained while adjusting his jacket.
Aarav smiled faintly.
“You said the same thing yesterday night,” he replied.
Kabir shrugged.
“That was before I realized trekking at 5 AM is a crime against humanity.”
A few people walking ahead laughed softly.
The trail slowly grew steeper.
Somewhere behind them, another small group was climbing the same path.
Among them was Meera Sharma.
She walked quietly beside her cousin Riya, who was busy recording videos on her phone.
“Guys, look at this fog! This place is magical!” Riya said excitedly while turning the camera around.
Behind them, their childhood friend Dev carried a small tripod.
“You've already recorded twenty videos,” Dev said. “What more is left?”
“The sunrise!” Riya replied dramatically.
Meera smiled but said nothing.
Unlike Riya, she was not here for pictures.
She had come because her grandmother once told her something strange when she was a child.
"If you ever feel lost in life, go watch the sunrise from the mountains. The sky will remind you that every day begins again."
At the time she didn't understand it.
Now she did.
The trekking groups slowly reached the final rocky platform.
A wide open cliff.
Valleys stretched endlessly below, filled with floating clouds.
The horizon was turning golden.
People settled on rocks, adjusting cameras and sipping hot tea from small flasks.
Kabir dropped his bag and sighed dramatically.
“If the sun doesn't come out in the next five minutes, I'm filing a complaint.”
Aarav chuckled.
Meanwhile, a few meters away, Meera sat quietly on a flat stone, hugging her knees to keep warm.
For a brief moment…
A cold mountain wind passed.
Aarav turned slightly.
Meera looked up at the horizon.
Their eyes crossed for barely a second.
Neither of them noticed.
Because at that exact moment —
The sun rose.
Golden light spilled across the mountains.
Everyone around gasped in wonder.
Phones came out.
People clapped.
Someone whispered, “This is beautiful.”
Kabir shouted, “Okay fine… this was worth waking up!”
Riya began filming again.
But in the middle of all that excitement…
Two strangers stood just a few steps away from each other, watching the same sunrise.
Unaware that this quiet moment…
was the first page of a story that would slowly change both their lives.
And far below the mountains, the town was waking up.
But up there…
Something else had just begun.
