Where the Sunrise Waited - The One Who Sees - Part 13
The silence after Raghav’s words didn’t break.
It stretched.
Like time itself was waiting.
Waiting for someone to do something.
Kabir finally whispered,
“I vote we go back.”
Dev replied instantly,
“There is no ‘back.’ Remember?”
Kabir closed his eyes.
“Right. The forest hates us.”
Riya exhaled slowly.
“So what do we do? Just stand here and think about life?”
Kabir nodded seriously.
“I refuse. That’s dangerous.”
No one smiled this time.
Because something had changed.
Not outside.
Inside.
Aarav looked at the symbol again.
Then at the path they came from.
Then back at Meera.
Still the same calm expression.
But now—
It felt deeper.
Like she was listening to something no one else could hear.
And then—
She moved.
Not forward.
Not backward.
Sideways.
Toward the edge of the clearing.
Slow steps.
Careful.
Riya frowned.
“Where are you going?”
Meera didn’t answer.
Kabir whispered,
“This is how horror movies begin.”
Dev muttered,
“We’re already inside one.”
Meera stopped near a tree.
Old.
Twisted.
Its bark looked… different.
Not rough.
Not natural.
She reached out slowly.
Her fingers hovered over it.
Then—
She touched it.
Nothing happened.
Kabir exhaled loudly.
“Okay good. No explosion.”
Dev added,
“Yet.”
Meera’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Her fingers moved across the bark.
Following something.
A pattern.
Faint.
Almost invisible.
She stepped back.
“There’s another one,” she said softly.
Riya walked closer.
“What?”
Meera pointed.
A symbol.
Smaller than the one on the ground.
But the same design.
Hidden in the tree.
Kabir leaned in.
“…why is it everywhere? Is this like a logo or something?”
Dev said,
“Not helping.”
Aarav stepped closer too.
His eyes focused on the carving.
And then—
For a brief second—
He saw something.
Not the symbol.
Something else.
A flicker.
Like movement behind it.
He blinked.
It was gone.
His expression changed slightly.
Not fear.
But confusion.
Raghav noticed.
“You saw something.”
It wasn’t a question.
Aarav hesitated.
Then nodded slightly.
Kabir immediately stepped back.
“Of course he did. Of course someone saw something.”
Riya asked,
“What did you see?”
Aarav spoke slowly.
“Not clearly.”
“Like… something moved.”
Dev frowned.
“Behind the tree?”
Aarav shook his head.
“No.”
A pause.
“Behind… everything.”
Silence.
Kabir whispered,
“…I take back everything. I want to leave.”
Riya crossed her arms tighter.
“This isn’t normal.”
Dev said quietly,
“Nothing here is.”
Meera looked at Aarav.
Not surprised.
Not scared.
Just… thinking.
Then she asked,
“Did it feel real?”
Aarav looked at her.
“Yes.”
No hesitation.
Kabir groaned softly.
“Perfect. Now we have hallucinations also.”
Raghav stepped forward.
Closer to both of them.
“This is the point,” he said.
Dev frowned.
“What point?”
Raghav looked at Aarav.
“Not everyone sees the same thing.”
Riya’s voice lowered.
“What does that mean?”
Raghav didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he turned slowly.
Looking at the clearing.
The symbol.
The trees.
Then said—
“This place doesn’t show reality.”
“It shows… you.”
Kabir blinked.
“…I don’t like what that implies.”
Dev asked,
“So Aarav saw something because…?”
Raghav replied,
“Because something is trying to be understood.”
Silence again.
Heavier.
More personal.
Riya looked at Meera.
“And her?”
Raghav followed her gaze.
Meera stood still.
But her eyes…
They weren’t searching anymore.
They were focused.
Like she had already found something.
“She’s not seeing,” Raghav said quietly.
“She’s listening.”
Kabir whispered,
“That sounds worse.”
Meera ignored all of them.
Her gaze shifted again.
This time—
Toward a direction deeper into the forest.
Beyond the clearing.
There was no visible path.
But something about it…
Felt like a call.
She took a step.
Riya grabbed her hand.
“Wait.”
Meera stopped.
Riya’s voice was softer now.
“We don’t even know where that goes.”
Meera looked at her.
“For the first time… I think I do.”
Kabir whispered to Dev,
“I have a bad feeling about confident people.”
Dev replied,
“You are confident all the time.”
Kabir nodded.
“And I am always wrong.”
Raghav stepped closer.
“If you go there…” he said,
“…it may not be the same for all of us.”
Dev frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Raghav’s voice dropped slightly.
“We might not experience the same path anymore.”
Riya tightened her grip on Meera’s hand.
“So we stay together.”
Kabir immediately agreed.
“Yes. Group discount on survival.”
But Meera gently pulled her hand back.
Not forcefully.
Just enough.
Riya looked at her.
Confused.
A little scared.
Meera spoke softly,
“This… is not one path.”
“It’s many.”
Kabir froze.
“…no. No splitting. I refuse.”
Dev looked at Raghav.
“Is she right?”
Raghav didn’t deny it.
Which was enough.
Silence.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
Aarav looked at Meera.
Then at the direction she was looking.
Then back at the group.
Something was shifting.
Inside him.
A decision forming.
Kabir raised his hand again.
“I would like to officially request a simple problem. Like slipping on rocks again.”
Riya almost smiled.
Almost.
Then—
The air shifted again.
Softer this time.
But clearer.
Like a whisper passing through all of them.
Not heard.
Felt.
And suddenly—
Everyone sensed it.
Different.
But real.
The path ahead…
Was not the same.
For anyone.
