Where the Sunrise Waited - The Place She Remembers - Part 15
The moment Meera stepped forward…
The forest disappeared.
Not slowly.
Not fading.
Just—gone.
For a second, there was nothing.
No sound.
No ground.
No air.
Just silence so complete… it felt heavy.
Then—
She blinked.
And everything returned.
But not the same.
She was standing in a place that looked familiar.
Too familiar.
A narrow street.
Old houses.
Faded paint on the walls.
A small shop at the corner.
Her breath caught.
“…this…” she whispered.
Kabir’s voice echoed in her head suddenly—
“If a ghost appears now, I’m politely fainting.”
She almost smiled.
Almost.
Because this wasn’t funny.
This was real.
Too real.
She took a step forward.
The street didn’t change.
Didn’t flicker.
Didn’t break.
It stayed.
That’s what made it worse.
She walked slowly.
Every detail sharp.
Every corner known.
And then—
She saw it.
A small house.
White walls.
Blue gate.
Her fingers trembled slightly.
“…no,” she whispered.
But her feet kept moving.
Like the path wasn’t asking anymore.
It was deciding.
Meanwhile—
Back in the forest—
Kabir was pacing.
“This is not okay,” he said.
“This is absolutely not okay. She just walked into thin air like it’s a door.”
Dev leaned against a tree.
“You saw her walk.”
Kabir stopped.
“That’s not the point.”
Riya stood still.
Eyes fixed ahead.
“She’s not gone,” she said quietly.
Kabir turned.
“Then where is she?”
Riya didn’t answer.
Because she didn’t know.
Raghav finally spoke.
“She’s where she needs to be.”
Kabir threw his hands up.
“I hate answers like that.”
Dev added,
“You hate all answers.”
Kabir nodded.
“True.”
Back—
Where Meera stood—
The air felt warmer.
Heavier.
Like time had slowed down.
She reached the blue gate.
Her hand hovered over it.
Then—
She pushed.
It opened.
Easily.
No resistance.
Inside—
A small courtyard.
A swing.
Still.
Silent.
Her eyes softened.
Not in happiness.
In recognition.
She stepped in.
And then—
A voice.
Faint.
From inside the house.
“Meera?”
She froze.
Her breath stopped.
That voice—
She knew it.
Kabir’s voice echoed again in her memory—
“Bad decisions are now part of the itinerary.”
She exhaled slowly.
“…this is not real,” she said to herself.
But the voice came again.
Closer this time.
“Meera…?”
Her eyes filled slightly.
Not with tears.
With confusion.
Because a part of her…
Wanted to believe it was real.
She took a step toward the door.
Then stopped.
Raghav’s words echoed in her mind—
“This place shows… you.”
Her hand slowly clenched.
“This is not the present,” she whispered.
The air shifted.
Just slightly.
Like the place reacted to her realization.
The voice stopped.
Silence again.
But heavier now.
More intense.
Meera stepped back.
Her eyes scanning everything again.
The house.
The courtyard.
The swing.
Still unmoving.
“This is something I remember,” she said softly.
Not afraid.
Not emotional.
Just… aware.
Meanwhile—
Back in the forest—
Kabir had now reached peak panic.
“I’m telling you,” he said,
“if she comes back and says she met her past self, I’m leaving. I don’t care how. I will find a way.”
Dev replied,
“You said that ten times.”
Kabir nodded.
“And I mean it more each time.”
Riya suddenly spoke,
“What if she doesn’t come back?”
Silence.
That question landed.
Heavy.
Kabir blinked.
“…not helping.”
Dev looked at Raghav.
“You said only one should go.”
Raghav didn’t respond immediately.
His eyes were still fixed ahead.
Watching.
Waiting.
Then he said quietly—
“She will return.”
Kabir folded his hands.
“Sir, I trust you. But also… I don’t.”
Back—
Inside the strange place—
Meera took a deep breath.
Then turned away from the house.
Deliberately.
Firmly.
“This is not why I’m here,” she said.
The moment she said it—
The ground beneath her shifted.
The image flickered.
The house blurred.
The street distorted.
Like a reflection breaking in water.
The voice called again—
Louder this time.
“Meera!”
She didn’t turn.
Didn’t stop.
Didn’t respond.
She walked forward.
Away.
And the moment she did—
Everything collapsed.
The house.
The street.
The memory.
Gone.
The forest returned.
Suddenly.
Sharply.
She stumbled slightly—
And then—
She was back.
Standing at the edge of the clearing.
Kabir froze.
“…she’s back.”
Riya rushed forward.
“Meera!”
Dev stood up straight.
“What happened?”
Meera looked at all of them.
Her expression calm.
But different.
Not confused anymore.
Clearer.
Kabir stepped closer.
“Did you see something?” he asked.
She nodded.
Kabir swallowed.
“…was it bad?”
Meera shook her head slightly.
“No.”
A pause.
Then she added—
“It was something I didn’t leave behind.”
Silence.
Raghav watched her carefully.
Understanding something without asking.
Dev asked quietly,
“And now?”
Meera looked at the symbol again.
Then at the path ahead.
Then said—
“Now… I know this isn’t about where we go.”
Kabir whispered,
“…please say it’s about food.”
No one responded.
Of course.
Riya almost smiled.
Dev shook his head.
Aarav looked at Meera.
Not questioning.
Not reacting.
Just… seeing.
And for the first time—
Something had changed.
Not between them.
But within them.
The path had shown one truth.
But more were waiting.
