Where the Sunrise Waited - The Place That Doesn’t Exist - Part 12
The hidden path was different.
Not just quieter.
But… unnaturally still.
No birds.
No wind.
Not even the sound of their own footsteps felt real.
Kabir whispered,
“Okay… if a ghost appears now, I’m just going to politely say hello and faint.”
Dev replied,
“Please faint quietly.”
Kabir nodded.
“I respect public silence.”
No one laughed fully.
Just small breaths of relief.
Because something was changing.
The path grew narrower.
Trees leaned closer.
Branches almost touching each other above them—
Like the forest was closing in.
Riya slowed down.
“Does anyone else feel like we’re not supposed to be here?”
Kabir raised his hand.
“I have felt that since Part 1.”
They kept walking.
Carefully.
Slowly.
Then suddenly—
The path opened.
Completely.
In front of them was a clearing.
But it didn’t look like any normal place.
The ground was smooth.
Almost like stone.
Circular.
Perfectly shaped.
As if someone had designed it.
In the center—
A symbol.
The same one.
Carved into the ground.
Larger this time.
Much larger.
Dev stepped forward first.
“Okay… now this is definitely not coincidence.”
Kabir leaned closer.
“…I take back my science theory.”
Riya whispered,
“This place… feels old.”
Raghav didn’t move.
His eyes were fixed on the symbol.
Like he had seen it before.
Or remembered it.
Meera slowly stepped toward the center.
Her footsteps echoed slightly.
Which made no sense.
Because there was no hollow ground.
Aarav followed her.
Not too close.
But not far either.
Still silent.
Still watching.
Kabir turned to Dev.
“If she activates something, I’m blaming you.”
Dev frowned.
“Why me?”
“You look like someone who supports bad decisions.”
Riya sighed.
“You are the bad decision.”
Meera stopped at the edge of the symbol.
She didn’t step on it.
Just looked at it.
Carefully.
As if trying to understand it.
Not fear it.
A soft wind passed.
For the first time since entering the path.
The air shifted.
And then—
A sound.
Low.
Almost like a hum.
Dev froze.
“Did you hear that?”
Kabir whispered,
“I hear my life ending.”
The symbol… faintly glowed.
Not bright.
Just enough to be seen.
Lines slowly lighting up.
One by one.
Riya stepped back.
“Nope. I don’t like this.”
Kabir immediately followed her.
“Same team.”
But Meera didn’t move.
Her eyes followed the glowing lines.
As if they were… speaking.
Aarav noticed something.
The pattern.
It wasn’t random.
It was moving.
Repeating.
Like a loop.
His grip tightened slightly.
“The path…” he said quietly.
Dev looked at him.
“What?”
Aarav continued,
“It’s not outside.”
Everyone looked at him.
He rarely spoke.
So when he did—
It mattered.
Kabir whispered,
“…bro chose the most intense moment to become philosophical.”
Aarav didn’t react.
His eyes stayed on the symbol.
“It’s here,” he said.
Riya frowned.
“What does that even mean?”
Before anyone could respond—
The ground shifted.
Just slightly.
Enough to feel it.
Kabir jumped.
“NOPE.”
Dev grabbed his arm.
“Stay still!”
The glowing lines moved faster now.
The symbol was no longer just glowing—
It was changing.
Raghav stepped forward suddenly.
“Don’t move,” he said firmly.
Everyone froze.
Even Kabir.
Which was rare.
Raghav looked at Meera.
“Step back.”
Meera didn’t.
Instead, she asked quietly,
“What happens if I don’t?”
Kabir whispered,
“We all die.”
Dev added,
“Most likely.”
Raghav’s voice was calm.
But serious.
“This place reacts.”
“To what?” Riya asked.
Raghav looked at them.
“To us.”
Silence.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
Kabir slowly raised his hand again.
“I would like to officially apologize for touching anything earlier.”
Dev replied,
“Accepted. Too late.”
The humming sound grew louder.
The air felt heavier.
Like pressure building.
Meera finally stepped back.
Just one step.
The moment she did—
The glow slowed.
The sound softened.
Everything… eased.
Everyone exhaled.
At the same time.
Kabir placed his hand on his chest dramatically.
“I just saw my entire childhood memories.”
Riya said,
“You’re 24.”
“Still emotional,” Kabir replied.
Aarav looked at Meera.
For a brief second—
Their eyes met.
Not soft.
Not romantic.
Just…
Understanding.
Like both of them realized something—
But didn’t say it.
Raghav stepped into the center slowly.
This time—
Nothing happened.
No glow.
No sound.
He looked down at the symbol.
Then spoke.
Almost like he already knew.
“This isn’t a place.”
Dev frowned.
“Then what is it?”
Raghav looked up.
At all of them.
“It’s a test.”
Kabir blinked.
“…of what?”
Raghav paused.
Then said quietly—
“Of whether we keep walking…”
“…or finally understand why we’re walking.”
Silence fell again.
Deeper this time.
Because this wasn’t fear anymore.
This was something else.
Something heavier.
Something personal.
Kabir looked around.
Then sighed.
“Okay… I didn’t sign up for self-reflection. I signed up for trekking.”
Dev smirked slightly.
“Too late.”
Riya crossed her arms.
“So what now?”
Raghav didn’t answer immediately.
Instead—
He looked at each of them.
One by one.
As if the next step…
Was not the same for everyone.
