My Roommate is a Ghost… and She Won’t Pay Rent! - The Date… Featuring One Human, One Ghost, and Zero Dignity - Part 6
The day had arrived.
Raghav’s first date.
In years.
Maybe centuries, emotionally.
He stood in front of the mirror.
Nervous.
Sweating.
Questioning life.
“I can’t do this,” he whispered.
“You can’t NOT do this,” Meera replied.
He turned.
“You’re not coming.”
She smiled.
“I’m always coming.”
“That sounded threatening.”
“It was comforting.”
Raghav pointed at the door.
“Stay here.”
She nodded.
“Of course.”
Thirty seconds later…
He stepped outside.
Walked five steps.
Stopped.
Turned slowly.
Meera was floating behind him.
Waving.
“I KNEW IT!” he shouted.
“You walk too slow. I got bored.”
At the café…
Raghav sat down.
Alone.
Technically.
Emotionally… not at all.
“Okay,” he whispered, “new rule. SILENT MODE.”
Meera zipped her lips.
Then unzipped.
“I don’t have a zip, but you get the idea.”
His date arrived.
Her name: Priya.
Smiling. Normal. Peaceful.
Everything Raghav was not.
“Hi,” she said.
“Hi,” he replied.
Meera leaned in.
“She’s pretty.”
“I KNOW. STOP COMMENTARY.”
They sat.
Awkward silence.
Classic.
Iconic.
Painful.
Meera whispered:
“Say something intelligent.”
Raghav nodded.
Opened his mouth.
“I like… food.”
Priya blinked.
“…Same?”
Meera clapped slowly.
“Brilliant. Nobel Prize incoming.”
Raghav kicked the air.
Accidentally hit nothing.
Because she was a ghost.
Unfortunately.
Waiter arrived.
“What would you like?”
Raghav looked at the menu.
Words blurred.
Confidence missing.
Brain offline.
Meera leaned over the menu.
“Order pasta. Safe choice.”
Raghav nodded.
“I’ll have… pasta.”
Priya smiled.
“Me too.”
Meera gasped.
“She copied you! This is love.”
Raghav choked on air.
Priya panicked.
“Are you okay?!”
“Yes,” he wheezed.
“No,” Meera corrected.
Conversation continued.
Painfully.
Slowly.
Unnaturally.
“So what do you do?” Priya asked.
“I work in IT,” Raghav said.
Meera added:
“And emotionally, he struggles.”
Raghav forced a smile.
“Just IT.”
Suddenly…
A spoon moved.
On its own.
Priya froze.
“…Did you see that?”
Raghav smiled nervously.
“No.”
Meera waved the spoon again.
“HELLO.”
Raghav whispered angrily:
“STOP IT!”
Priya blinked.
“I didn’t do anything…”
Meera leaned back.
“I’m testing her. She’s not reacting properly.”
“She’s NORMAL!” Raghav whispered.
“Suspicious.”
Food arrived.
Pasta.
Hot.
Peaceful.
Innocent.
Raghav picked his fork.
Meera picked the plate.
Slightly lifted.
Raghav froze.
“Put it DOWN.”
Priya stared.
“…Are you talking to your food?”
Meera grinned.
“This is fun.”
Raghav took a deep breath.
“Focus,” he told himself.
“You got this.”
Priya smiled kindly.
“You seem nervous.”
Meera whispered:
“Say something charming.”
Raghav nodded.
“You make me… forget my ghost.”
Silence.
Complete silence.
Time stopped.
Universe paused.
Priya blinked.
“…Your what?”
Raghav closed his eyes.
“I meant stress.”
Meera burst into laughter.
Floating sideways.
“THIS IS BETTER THAN DEATH!”
Priya slowly stood up.
“I think… I should go.”
Raghav panicked.
“No wait—”
The chair moved.
On its own.
Priya didn’t wait.
She left.
Fast.
Efficient.
Emotionally correct.
Silence.
Raghav sat down.
Broken.
Defeated.
Publicly embarrassed.
Meera sat across him.
Still laughing.
“I give that date… 10/10 entertainment.”
Raghav stared.
“You ruined it.”
She nodded proudly.
“I improved it.”
He sighed.
“You don’t understand.”
She stopped laughing.
Just for a moment.
“I do,” she said quietly.
“You wanted it to work.”
Raghav looked away.
“…Yeah.”
Pause.
Then she smiled again.
“But let’s be honest… you saying ‘my ghost’ was iconic.”
Raghav covered his face.
“I need a new life.”
Meera leaned forward.
“No need.”
“You already have me.”
He peeked through his fingers.
“…That’s the problem.”
She grinned.
“That’s the solution.”
And just like that…
The date failed.
Spectacularly.
Historically.
Embarrassingly.
But somewhere between disaster and laughter…
Raghav realized something terrifying:
He wasn’t upset about the date.
He was upset…
because Meera was right there.
Always.
